Looking back in my archive of printed schedules the earliest I found that I know I was involved in was 1992, with one designed on an Amstrad PCW! That was in the days when our dial code was '0287' without the '1'. In the intervening 32 years the schedule got more and more 'professional' as the Show grew and grew. But of course, the Covid pandemic changed everything. I'm keeping (below) our website details for the first online version, where entries could be made and judged without the 'mingling' that was prohibited in Lockdown, and this idea worked relatively well for a couple more years. I'm delighted to say that the celebrations for the late Queen's Jubilee and the King's Coronation brought together a new group of enthusiastic organisers for what I hope will become regular annual village 'Fun Days' based round the Pavilion and the Rec. In 2023 I promoted a 'Mini Show', which was supposed to be in a marquee, but the horrible weather meant that it was better to save that under-cover space for Fun Day activities, while the Mini Show decamped to the Memorial Hall, where it was a moderate success despite the downpours. But I can't deny that that was a last straw for me... after 32 years I've bowed out of the effort of organising classes, judges, stewards and advertisers, and putting them all into a schedule. If anyone else wishes to take on the mantle of Show Organiser, I would be only too happy to help with advice, and even take the entries and collate the results on my own unique computer program, specially evolved to run a show where entries are taken on the day. (For a bit more background on this, see www.teeafit.co.uk/mmh/mmhshowbasic.htm.) |
So many thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to Moorsholm Show over the past 32 years — I couldn't have done it without you. And here's a bit of nostalgia:

The 2020 Show is somewhat different... clearly the Covid-19 pandemic has put a stop to all country shows and similar events, but we don't want to tradition to stop this year because of that. So, The Show Will Go On(line) from today (August 22nd), with limited classes that have allowed entries to be submitted by email, and judged remotely. There were 144 entries , with 117 in the Photography Section, and 17 in the Art. However, the Children's Section could have been better supported, with only 10 entries — maybe they were keyboarded-out with all the remote schoolwork they've had to do recently! |
